If you’re considering heading out for a day trip this summer or simply want to take a mini-vacation within driving distance of Highland Park, here are three fun summer activities you can drive to from Highland Park, MI. These are perfect for road-trippers looking for something unique and close by to do with family and friends.

Mitchell State Park

Mitchell State Park is less than 20 miles from Highland Park and offers a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors, including hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, and camping. There are also several trails within the park that can be accessed by car or bike.

One of the most popular attractions at Mitchell State Park is Twin Lakes. This 1,700-acre lake has 12 miles of shoreline and provides excellent fishing opportunities for trout and panfish anglers. The lake also has two swimming beaches with lifeguards on duty during the summer months.

Wilson-Modern Lodge

If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, Wilson-Modem Lodge is the place to go. This beautiful lodge is located in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and features pristine views of Lake Superior and the surrounding forests. The Wilson-Modern Lodge offers many different activities for guests, including canoeing, fishing, and hiking.

The resort also has an outdoor pool with a water slide, which is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. There are two onsite restaurants that serve American food and snacks throughout the day.

Silver Creek State Forest

The Silver Creek State Forest is one of the largest state forests in Michigan. It sits on over 100,000 acres of land with over 30 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The park features 11 campgrounds with more than 750 campsites for RVs and tent camping. There are also cabins available for rent at some locations throughout the park. There are two lakes within Silver Creek State Forest: Lake Vanderbilt and Lake Brehmer.

Lake Vanderbilt offers canoeing and kayaking opportunities as well as fishing from shore or from the many piers located around the lake. Lake Brehmer has a boat launch ramp that allows access to Bass Lake, where you can enjoy swimming or fishing during warmer weather months. The park also contains an arboretum that’s filled with different species of trees and shrubs from all over the world.

If you are looking to have a fun time this summer, we suggest checking out one of these three activities. They will provide an exciting break in your busy schedule. With the safety features of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, like emergency SOS and side impact beams, you will no doubt feel safe traveling.
