Bars are a funny thing. A good one can be your favorite place in the whole world to hang out; a bad one can be absolutely disgusting and a spot most people would never want to spend time in. Thankfully, here in Highland Park, MI we have some of the best bars around. These are places where you and the gang can really enjoy after work, with your designated driver whisking you there and back in comfort in your Jeep Cherokee.

Woodward Ave. Bar & Grille

Obviously, you can get food at this great place at 12000 Woodward Ave, but the drinks are where it’s at. The atmosphere here is laid back, the food is delicious, and the drinks are really excellent. They open at 5PM and close at midnight on Sunday and Thursday and at 2AM on Friday and Saturday. They’re closed on Monday and Tuesday.

They have great deals on Happy Hour drinks, which include some excellent imported and domestic beers, decent margaritas, daiquiris, pina coladas, shooters, and more. They have a great assortment of whiskeys, too. If you enjoy drinks here, or anywhere, please do so responsibly and never drink and drive.

Kiesling

If you’ve ever wanted to step back in time, this is the place to do it. This bar’s building, at 449 E Milwaukee Ave, was built in 1890, and the proprietors are doing their best to keep their offerings authentic to the period. They’re open from 5PM until midnight most nights. On Friday and Saturday, they stay open until 2PM, and on Sundays, they are open from noon until 4PM.

What you want to try here are the amazing cocktails (and they have some good ones for your designated driver, too, like the Tiny Receipts, which is Seedlip Spice 94, lemon/lime cordial, cranberry, lagunitas, and hoppy refresher). They specialize in classics from a bye-gone era, like a Snug Toddy, and unique offerings, like the Sledding in San Luis, which is Vidal mezcal with cocoa, ancho, shiitake, spices, nutmeg, and a housemade marshmallow. Or, try the Talk Back, which is a cognac with mulberry, lemon, and mole bitters.

Bumbo’s

At 3001 Holbrook Ave, Bumbo’s is open from 7PM until 2PM Sunday through Friday and from 6PM until 2PM on Saturday. This is a wonderful place for price, quality, and atmosphere, and on Wednesdays, they have home-cooked food you can order.

This isn’t the place to get a crafted cocktail with a thousand ingredients: this is a place to get a perfectly made classic, like Manhatten, a Negroni, or an absolutely perfect martini. The bartenders take care to make everything well. Try one of their house cocktails, like the Warsaw Mule, or a classic like the Dark and Stormy. We’re also very fond of The Fisherman, which is Hayman’s Old Tom Gin with lemon, salt, and kombu-matcha syrup.

Whether you’re looking for a place to take a date, a new hangout after work, or a neighborhood spot where you can be yourself and make friends, these bars are great places to start. And for the best in service on your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, or RAM vehicle, visit us at Bill Snethkamp CDJR.
