greek town in Highland Park, MIAs its name suggests, Greektown has no shortage of Greek cuisine on offer. This Detroit neighborhood, however, features many different dining experiences from a variety of ethnicities and cultures, ranging from Italian to Mexican to Asian. Here are a few restaurants in Greektown that are well worth a visit.

  1. Prism

If you’re looking for an upmarket dining experience, or have a dinner date with someone special, make a reservation at Prism. This restaurant, which is located in the Greektown Casino-Hotel, boasts award-winning dishes and top-quality wines. It has been honored with Best Steakhouse and Best Happy Hour awards by HOUR Detroit Magazine, as well as the Wine Spectators’ Award of Excellence in 2017. The interior is stylish and modern, offering a stunning view of the Detroit skyline. Prism also boasts live music by Detroit’s top musicians.

On the menu are a variety of delectable steak, seafood, and pasta dishes, such as lobster bisque, filet mignon, Colorado lamb chops, and Isle of Sky salmon. Side dishes include steamed broccoli, grilled asparagus, charred brussels, and creamed spinach. After supper, you can try your luck at the casino or spoil yourself by booking into the hotel for the night.

 

  1. Pegasus Taverna

Pegasus Taverna has been a favorite with locals for more than two decades and has repeatedly been named as the top Greek restaurant in metro Detroit. This family-owned restaurant offers authentic, traditional Greek food, and a well-stocked wine cellar. The interior, which features a huge open kitchen and a new deli counter, has a laid-back, rustic feel, offering the perfect venue for a family meal or get-together with friends.

The menu is extensive, boasting all your favorite Greek fare. For starters, you can go for tender baby octopus, red Greek caviar, or Dolmathakia, which is grape leaves rolled around rice, spices, and ground meat. For your main dish, you can try a traditional Greek spinach cheese pie, or Moussaka, which is layers of thinly-sliced eggplant covered in Béchamel sauce. Finish off your Greek meal with a helping of Baklava or creamy rice-pudding, named Rizogalo in Greek.

The taverna stays open till 3 or 4 a.m. in the morning, so pop around if you’re peckish after a night out in Greektown.

  1. Fishbone’s Rhythm Kitchen Café

Fishbone’s is a family-owned restaurant that has been running since 1989. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and roomy, sporting high ceilings, ornate pillars, mosaic-tiled floors, and two bar areas. The extensive menu features a mix of Creole and classic American fare that ranges from seafood to steak to sushi.

If you’re feeling adventurous, the starter menu offers exotic dishes such as frog legs and alligator bites. You can also opt for something more familiar, such as lobster medallions or oysters. A wide variety of main dishes are on offer, including New Orleans-inspired dishes like crawfish étoufféé, consisting of crawfish tail, onions, and peppers. Or you can try the Jambalaya, which is a stew of shrimp, sausage, mushrooms, and homemade tomato and herb sauce served on rice.

Greektown offers diners a huge variety of different gastronomic experiences. No matter what your taste, you’re sure to find a dining spot in the neighborhood that will tickle your taste buds.
