Michigan is well-known as being the home to many popular breweries. You may have heard of (and enjoyed) a couple of brews from Founders Brewing, or Bell’s Brewery, which has been around since the ’90s. Detroit, in particular, has seen an explosion in the craft beer scene, but we’re here to tell you about a few of our favorite craft breweries near Highland Park, MI. Remember, if you’re going to brewery hop, please drink responsibly.

Tenacity Craft

With a variety of beer, cider, coffee, and N/A options, there’s surely something here for everyone. We love the traditional live Jazz on Sunday nights as well as the tasty snack offerings. Located between Piety Hill and New Center Commons, this brewpub’s location sports a small farm out back and a dog-friendly patio.

Motor City Brewing Works- Livernois Taproom

Highland Park is lucky to be sandwiched between two Motor City Brewing Works locations. Canfield is located right by the Wayne State campus, but our favorite is the Livernois Taproom. Along with their two flagship Ghettoblasters and other crowd classics, they have a strong selection of brews in their Mettle series. Hard ciders and sodas are available as well. Hurry up and grab a seasonal Oktoberfest beer before they run out, as they only brew a limited quantity.

Ferndale Project

Functioning as the Eastern Market Brewing Company’s experimental playground, Ferndale Project serves offerings that hit every place on a beer lover’s tastebuds. You can choose from Easy-Drinking, Hoppy, Sour, and Malty sections of their menu, where you’ll find a good mix of both EMBC and FP brews. We’re mostly interested in their 5-sample flight because there’s way too much goodness to go around.

B. Nektar

It wouldn’t “BEE” a complete list of craft breweries if we didn’t think about Gluten-Free friends! B. Nektar is serving up homegrown mead and ciders in their taproom located in Ferndale. People are buzzing about their industrial digs and laidback vibe. But don’t be fooled by their sweet offerings; their meads can pack some high ABVs.

Brooks Brewing South- Ferndale

Good news! The Shelby Township location will be re-opening soon. Even though Brooks Brewing South is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, we’ll give them a pass. Everything they have on tap is also available in 16oz. cans and there are a hefty number of rotating taps, to keep things as spicy as their popular Baba Yaga wings. For the week of Halloween, come in wearing your costume and receive $1 off your beverage.

Urbanrest Brewing Company

Urbanrest Brewing Company is truly a one-stop fermentation station, with offerings spanning beer, kombucha, sparkling wine, and cider. With a wide variety of flavors that will surely appease a thirsty population, they invite you into their spacious taproom for some charcuterie and experimental brews. Also, did we mention they have liter steins?
Detroit shouldn’t get the entire limelight when it comes to craft breweries. Michigan has much to offer in other neighborhoods, and we think Highland Park is a great place to start your libation adventures. You’ll need a way to explore the area, so check out the conveniently located Bill Snethkamp CDJR right in Highland Park for all your vehicle needs.
