Walking through Detroit’s Greektown fills your nose with the wonderful scents of Mediterranean food. Pegasus Taverna is a casual Greek restaurant with rustic décor, exposed brick on the walls, and lattice ceilings with greens laced throughout. The menu includes traditional Greek dishes such as spinach pie, olive platters, and gyros. For an appetizer, the saganaki, or flaming Greek cheese, is a must, and for a main dish, the chicken kebabs are amazing. The Greek sits in the heart of Greektown and offers excellent food and great service. The menu has a good mix of traditional Greek dishes along with some contemporary flavors. To start, the chicken shawarma is wonderful, and the Greek Quesadilla comes filled with sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach, grilled chicken, and both mozzarella and feta cheese. You can also get a chicken strip pita sandwich, and for entrees the chicken kebab is wonderful, and the spinach pie is always made right in house. The Greek also features specialty gyros that you can get as a sandwich, a bowl, or a plate.

The Golden Fleece
The Golden Fleece is a staple in the Greektown neighborhood, and it has some of the best gyros you can get in Detroit. The chef makes the gyro meat right in house, it comes out juicy and tender, and the gyro serving is huge. This is a popular spot for the late-night crowd since it stays open until 1 a.m. every night except Friday and Saturday when you can get your gyro fix until 3 a.m.

The Feta Cheese Pizza at Niki’s is on the list of 25 Best Pizzas in the U.S. It has just the right amount of saltiness, the crust is soft in the middle and crispy on the outside, and it comes with lots of toppings. This pizza place also serves excellent salads, saganaki, and cocktails. If you’ve never tried Greek pizza before, this is the place to go. When the weather is nice, you can even sit out on the patio, or you can order ahead and take your food to go.
