Ant Eater at Detroit Zoo

There isn’t much that is more fascinating than the animal kingdom. You can learn a lot about the natural world just from observing the magnificent creatures we share this world with. And a whole spectrum of these animals is waiting right around the corner at the Detroit Zoo. Let’s take a closer look at just some of what you can expect to see if you take a trip to the zoo.

Polk Penguin Conservation Center

One of the stand-out features of our local zoo is the penguin exhibit. The Polk Penguin Conservation Center is the largest man-made habitat for penguins in the world at over 33,000 square feet.

You’ll be able to observe over 75 penguins from four different species. Underwater tunnels of transparent acrylic let you observe the animals as they swim around underwater, something that would be otherwise impossible to see.

Great Apes of Harambee

Meet some of our closest evolutionary relatives at the great apes exhibit. This four-acre enclosure is designed to be as lush as the natural environment these proud creatures come from. You’ll marvel at how human-like the three silverback gorillas that live here are in their mannerisms.

The social antics of the troop of 12 chimpanzees that also live here are sure to amuse just about anyone, but the intelligence of both these animals is the most fascinating aspect for us.

Holden Reptile Conservation Center

Some might find our cold-blooded neighbors to be a little scary, but once you start learning about them at Holden Reptile Conservation Center, you’ll learn that these animals are valuable parts of our ecosystem.

You can find 70 different species of reptile here, of which more than a third are unfortunately currently threatened or endangered. The Chinese alligator and the Sonoran black iguana are just two examples of creatures you’ll discover here.

Mathilda R. Wilson Free-Flight Aviary

This unique display allows you to see birds as they are in their natural environments. The spacious aviary allows them to fly, swim, or walk around their surroundings so you can see them as you might in the wild.

The whole rainbow is represented by these vibrant animals, with over 20 species of birds including the scarlet ibis and the Taveta golden weaver soaring through the display.

Butterfly Garden

Some of the natural world’s most beautiful patterns and colors are on display in this tranquil garden. You can see over 25 species of butterflies flitting through the greenery and going about their natural behaviors, such as drinking nectar from flowers or basking in the sunlight.

The garden is kept at an ideal temperature for the butterflies, giving you a warm and relaxing experience as you walk around and take in the sights.

All of these wonders of the natural world can be seen close to home. If you need a new ride to get there, or you need to have your current vehicle serviced before making the trip, come in and see us. Visit Bill Snethcamp Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram today!
