
There are a multitude of things to do within the city limits, but did you know there are great things to see outside the city that you can do in one day? Whether you live there and are looking to explore outside the city or are visiting and looking for more things to experience, here are five incredible day trips you can take.
1: Museums: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Ann Arbor is located about 45 miles west of the city, making it a no brainer for a quick day trip. There are a variety of museums you can spend your day at including the Museum of Natural History, The Ann Arbor Art Museum that features exhibits from around the world, and the Ann Arbor Hands-on Museum, which features interactive exhibits that are great for children.
2: The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium: Toledo, Ohio
It might seem odd to cross state lines for a short trip, but Toledo is only 58 miles south of our starting point. Their Zoo and Aquarium is a top destination. With over 10,000 animals and over 720 different species, there is plenty to do and see.
3: Stepping Stone Falls: Flint, Michigan
If you head north out of the city about 68 miles, you’ll find Flint, Michigan. While there are many things to do within the city of Flint, if you’re looking for a nature-based day trip, you’ll want to make a stop at Stepping Stone Falls. This park has various hiking trails, picnic spots, as well as an accessible dam, and a lake stocked with fish to feed.
4: Vinomondo Winery: Fort Gratiot, Michigan
Located on Lake Huron about an hour away is Fort Gratiot. This coastal township is a gorgeous place to explore. There is a winery and pub located on the water that is sure to make a great day trip. You can learn how they make their wine and beer and even purchase the supplies to create your own! Don’t forget to stay for a tasting of their creations if you’re 21 years or older. 5: Michigan History Center: Lansing, Michigan
Roughly an hour and twenty minutes from our starting point, is the capital of Michigan, Lansing. If you’re interested in the history of Michigan, taking this trip to the Michigan History Center is a great idea. You can visit their history center to learn all about the cultured history this city and state has to offer. Admission is only $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for children ages 6-17, and free for children under 5 years old. Admission is always free on Sundays.
This is a fast-paced city with plenty to do but there’s also plenty to see in the surrounding areas.
