When you think of romantic cities, which ones automatically come to mind? Paris, France? Of course. Venice, Italy? Absolutely. But if you would indulge us for a moment, we’d like to add a city to this list that may surprise you, but impress you nonetheless. Detroit, MI, the MotorCity, has an abundance of romantic venues for you to enjoy a warm date night with that special someone. Here’s our top six:
Cairo Coffee
Trust us when we tell you, this is not your typical coffee shop. Cairo Coffee features decor and seating that is comfortable and intimate. It’s discreetly located in the back of a trendy women’s fashion store called Savvy Chic boutique and serves a multitude of specialty coffees that would make you wonder why you ever walked into Starbucks in the first place. It’s low-key, with ambient lighting and soft music playing in the background.
Z Lot
A hot date in a parking lot? Believe it. But what makes Z Lot so special is it’s one with several floors and if you take your date to the top floor, you’ll get a spectacular view of the city. We recommend heading there just before sunset as the skyline colors illuminate the city and bring out Detroit and Highland Park’s truly beautiful colors. Once the sun goes down, you’re perfectly located in the entertainment district to enjoy a night on the town.
Siren Hotel’s Candy Bar
If you want to make a lasting impression, take your date to one of the city’s most posh hotels. You don’t need to book a room to enjoy the atmosphere and a few drinks at the hotel’s Candy Bar. The food is also fantastic, so be sure to peruse the menu to see what entices your taste buds. Just be sure not to drink and drive if you consume alcohol.
Ford Drive-In Theatre
Take a trip down memory lane and enjoy a classic dating experience with a drive-in movie. The Ford drive-in theatre features five massive screens and movies that run up until two in the morning. There are plenty of snacks you can enjoy from their concession stand and be sure to bring some blankets if you’re visiting in the winter.
Baker’s Keyboard Lounge
Live music and professional bartenders make for an evening of culture and world-class cocktails. It’s one of the city’s oldest jazz clubs and is considered by many to be an institution in the city of Detroit. Just remember not to drink and drive.
