Rose’s Fine Food will take you back to a time when dining out was simple. The intimate and immaculate dining room is cozy and welcoming. The menu is small, yet delicious. Rose’s Fine Food is a popular breakfast diner featuring the Silverman’s Special which includes eggs, grits, and freshly baked toast. They also serve a large menu of freshly made bakery items and hot coffee. For lunch, make sure you try the Miss America dish which is a farm-fresh table chicken paired with caramelized onions, a yogurt dressing, and Detroit-sourced salad greens.

  1. American Coney Island

You cannot visit the city of Detroit without trying a Coney dog. The Coney Dog is a beef frankfurter which is still in its casing. The hot dog is then served on a warmed hot dog bun with chili, onions, and yellow mustard. Although the exact history of the Coney Dog is yet to be known, many agree that the American Coney Island in Detroit, Michigan, is a must-visit place to try one.

  1. Lafayette Coney Island

The MSU versus U of M football rivalry is not the only heated debate in Detroit. You will also find that locals either strongly prefer American Coney Island or their other option, the Lafayette Coney Island. Interestingly enough, Lafayette Coney Island is right next door to American Coney Island. You could literally try one and then take a few steps next door to try the other.

Lafayette also claims to have the best Coney Dog in all of Detroit. This family-owned diner-inspired restaurant was created after two brothers could not agree on the ingredients at American Coney Island. One of them split off to create the Lafayette Coney Island. Today, both restaurants are still thriving and consistently make it to the top of the best local restaurant lists.
