Although not many car manufacturers make high-performance sedans nowadays, there are still many drivers who want to experience both the thrills of a powerful vehicle and the comfort of a sedan. The 2020 Dodge Charger is a great example of such a car, providing comfort and tech features while also being a rocket on wheels.
Spectacularly Powerful Engines
The fact that the 2020 Charger’s base engine is a V-6 is a clear indication of Dodge’s goal of creating a supremely powerful sedan. The 3.6-liter delivers a respectable output of up to 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, transmitted down to the wheels with the help of an eight-speed automatic transmission. The next engine choice is a 5.7-liter V-8 with up to 370 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque. If that’s not enough, the Scat Pack trim comes with a bigger 6.4-liter V-8 that can produce up to 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.
You may think that a 485 horsepower V-8 engine is powerful enough to lead the line, but Dodge thought otherwise. The top SRC Hellcat Widebody trim is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that will deliver a spectacular output of up to 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, making the 2020 Dodge Charger one of the most powerful sedans on the planet. There’s even a Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition, with only 501 units made, that slightly increases the power output to 717 horsepower.
Excellent Handling and Traction
The extreme power delivered by the 2020 Dodge Charger’s V-8s would not be used to full effect if not for the many modern features that help the driver control it. Although rear-wheel drive comes as standard and makes the Charger extremely fun to handle, drivers who often face bad weather or who want full control of their car at all times can opt for the all-wheel-drive option. The performance electronic power steering also helps you control the car at high speeds, with three available steering modes that you can choose, all with self-explanatory names: Normal, Comfort, and Sport.
There’s more to a high-performance vehicle than raw power and traction, so the 2020 Charger is also equipped with a sport-tuned suspension with springs, sway bars, and special high-performance shock absorbers. Depending on your engine choice, the suspension can be upgraded to high-performance and Widebody competition suspension.
Performance in Numbers
The 2020 Dodge Charger’s powerful engine and great handling features don’t just sound good on paper, but also deliver on the road. When equipped with the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, the Charger can reach a top speed of 196 miles per hour and accelerate to 60 miles per hour from a complete standstill in only 3.6 seconds, a phenomenal time for a car that also prioritizes interior space and comfort.
The spirit of classic American muscle cars is still strong and the 2020 Dodge Charger is perfect proof of that. Its powerful engines, modern tech features, and comfortable cabin make it the ideal vehicle for may purposes, from the race track to family road trips.
