The Ram 1500 was redesigned for 2020 and, to add to its impressive specifications, all trim levels of the 2020 Ram 1500 are now available with a new EcoDiesel engine. This engine provides more power than previous versions, is more fuel efficient, and has an increased towing capacity. Here are some of the game-changing features of the 1500 EcoDiesel.

Powertrain

The EcoDiesel is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque to the rear or all four wheels. It’s matched with a class-exclusive TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission which employs a mild hybrid system that optimizes shift changes for performance, drivability, and efficiency. For the first time, the diesel engine is available for the Ram Rebel off-road oriented truck.

Performance

Improved fuel efficiency means that the EcoDiesel engine in rear-wheel drive models will return up to 22 mpg around the city while, for highway driving, you’ll get up to 32 mpg. When equipped with a full 33-gallon fuel tank, you can travel more than 1,000 miles without filling up. With four-wheel drive, you can get up to 21 mpg for city driving and 29 mpg on the highway which are solid figures for a truck the size of the Ram 1500.

When properly equipped, vehicles with the EcoDiesel engine have a maximum towing capacity of 12,560 pounds. Competitors with diesel engines from GMC and Chevrolet can only manage up to 9,100 pounds, while the Ford F-150 only pulls up to 11,500 pounds.
